Designed by Pavla & Mike Knelleken, Penthouse D in Prague is a private residence shaped by light, natural materials, craftsmanship and a close understanding of the people who call it home.

The project began with the complete transformation of an existing penthouse apartment. From the outset, the design was approached as a continuous whole, bringing interior architecture, interior design, bespoke furniture and craftsmanship together to create a calm, personal and timeless home.

Rather than following a predefined style, the spaces evolved through an open and personal dialogue with the clients. Their personalities, routines, interests and way of living became an essential part of the design process.

The result is a contemporary residential interior that feels sophisticated without being formal, warm without being conventional, and highly considered without losing its sense of ease.

Design Shaped by the People Who Live There

For us, creating a home begins with understanding the people who live in it.

A close relationship and an ongoing dialogue with the clients allowed the design to develop naturally around their individual needs and personalities. The intention was not to create a showpiece, but a home that feels genuinely theirs — refined, comfortable and deeply personal.

The existing layout was carefully reconsidered to improve the connections between rooms and create a greater sense of openness throughout the penthouse. Bespoke cabinetry, integrated storage and architectural details were developed to make use of the space down to the smallest detail.

Each room has its own character while remaining connected to the wider architectural language of the home.

Natural Materials & Bespoke Craftsmanship

The material palette is deliberately restrained.

Natural stone, warm timber, refined surfaces and tactile fabrics create a sense of continuity throughout the apartment. Against this quiet backdrop, carefully selected furniture, personal objects and distinctive details are given space to stand out.

Bespoke elements were created specifically for the home, responding to both the architecture and the people who live there. The craftsmanship is intentionally integrated rather than decorative — part of the architecture itself.

The result is an interior that feels timeless rather than trend-driven, allowing the character of the home to emerge gradually through its materials, proportions and details.

Bathrooms & Private Sauna

The bathrooms were completely reimagined as part of the overall interior architecture.

Generous proportions, sophisticated fittings, natural stone and precisely integrated storage create spaces that feel both luxurious and calm. One of the bathrooms incorporates a private sauna, turning an everyday space into a personal retreat within the home.

Here, materiality and functionality work together to create a quiet sense of luxury without excess.

Bedrooms Designed Around Individuality

The bedrooms were approached with the same attention to personality and everyday life.

Bespoke furniture, integrated architectural details and carefully considered layouts create spaces that feel intimate and individual, while remaining part of the wider design concept.

A Girl’s Bedroom with a Personal Touch

One of the most personal spaces in the apartment is the girl’s bedroom and adjoining bathroom.

By reorganising the existing layout, the bedroom became a more generous, elongated space with a stronger sense of depth. A custom mirror incorporating guitar holders by Openheim becomes both a functional element and a distinctive feature, reflecting her personality and interests.

The adjoining bathroom was transformed from a compact corner shower and standalone basin into a generous, clearly organised space with integrated storage and a calm material palette.

It is a small example of a larger principle behind the project: the best interiors are shaped by the people who live in them.

Timeless Interior Design in Prague

Penthouse D reflects the approach of Pavla & Mike Knelleken to residential interior architecture — creating spaces where architecture, materiality, furniture, craftsmanship and everyday life are considered together.

The focus is not on following trends, but on creating interiors with lasting relevance. Proportion, natural materials, functionality and individuality form the foundation of the design.
